Products Needed -
Craft Knife
Steel Ruler
Glue Stick/Gun
3D Shapes (2 variations)
Coloured card
Red Greetings card

This card can be made from the simplest of materials, as long as you use shapes and colours that compliment each other as I have done on this design. As it is for Christmas I have used delicate 3D plastic snowflakes (Hobbycraft) and 3D green Christmas trees. But feel free to use any shapes you like this design can work for any theme!

1. Firstly make sure that your working space is clean and you have enough space to cut, glue and create. Take your greetings card and lay it on your work mat, I normally take a good look at the size of the card before I start cutting and sticking, It might even be a good idea to sketch out your designs before anything so you know exactly what is going where.

2. Once you have the idea sketched out or in your head, take some coloured card, just 1 one the colours for now, and measure out 4 squares approximately
3cm x 3cm, mark on the card using a very sharp pencil. Now carefully cut out the measured squares using your craft knife. You should now have 4 neatly cut out squares. I would suggest using a pale colour card as it is going on the coloured back ground as you can see I have used white it keep it simple and stylish.

3. Sit the 4 white squares on top of the greetings card, whilst you choose your second colour paper or card that will sit on top of it. Try to choose a colour that is similar or mirrors the colour of your greetings card so that the whole thing co-ordinates. Measure out 4 more squares as before using your sharp pencil, but this time make it 2.5cm x 2.5 cm so that when they are stuck on to the other ones the colour can be seen around the edges.

4. Now carefully use a little pva glue on the back of each square, spreading the glue evening as not to gain any bubbles. If you find it easier you could use the glue stick as it tends not to be as messy! Carefully stick the larger squares on to your card, and place the smaller ones on top so that you can see some colour around the edges of the smaller card square.

5. Now for the finishing touches, if you have used pva glue in the last stage you may want to wait 10 minutes whilst the glue dries – if not carefully drizzle a little hot glue onto the back of your 3D shapes that you chose at the start and place them on the card in the exact position you want them. Once they are stuck there is no moving them as this glue is very strong – be careful not to drop them!
Good luck and remember this is only a guide line you can use any colours and shapes you like!

Here is the finished card on my site
